Every person has the right to decide for themselves whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term. But now without federal protections for abortion in the United States, more people than ever lack access to this right.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States shattered decades of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade. With abortion rights now the decision of individual states, 1 in 3 women of reproductive age now live in a state with little or no access to abortion care.

Congress has the power to protect the right to abortion across the country. The Women’s Health and Protection Act (WHPA) is a federal bill that protects the right to abortion and eliminates unnecessary restrictions that impede people’s access to safe abortion care.

The overturn of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court was an egregious rollback of human rights in the United States, and it puts the lives and health at risk of millions of women, girls, and people who can become pregnant.

Congress must take action and protect the right to abortion.

As your constituent, I urge you to fight for the right to abortion and other sexual and reproductive rights, including by supporting the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA). WHPA protects the right to access abortion care, free from medically unnecessary restrictions and bans on abortion — including mandatory waiting periods, biased counseling, two-trip requirements, and mandatory ultrasounds.

WHPA would create a statutory right for health care providers to provide abortion care, and a corresponding right for their patients to receive that care, free from medically unnecessary restrictions that single out abortion and impede access.

Abortion care is safe, essential health care, and it's a human right to which all people must have equal access. Abortion bans don't stop abortion; they stop safe abortion. Restricting the right to abortion care is dangerous and will cost lives, and it violates a person's right to control their own body.
