Ana* (22) and Victoria* (4) fled Honduras after repeated threats against their lives. They came to the U.S. seeking safety over ten months ago, and have been locked up ever since. They're currently detained by ICE in Dilley, Texas.
Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [CITY/STATE] to urge ICE to free all families together from detention.
A federal judge has ordered the release of all children from family detention centers because they are “on fire”: COVID‐19 runs rampant in the facilities, where children as young as one are held in indefinite detention.
ICE has a choice: family unity or family separation. ICE must release all families — children and parents — together. ICE has the legal authority to do so and has historically done this.
Parents must not be asked to separate from their children. Family separation violates multiple human rights and does not prioritize the best interests of the child.
Parents must not be left behind indefinitely in family detention, nor should families remain in indefinite detention together.
ICE must do the right thing: choose to uphold family unity by releasing families together. Thank you for your time.
