Katherine* (15) and Karla* (43) fled Honduras after being targeted because of their religion, political beliefs, and refusal to submit to gangs. They came to the U.S. seeking safety over seven months ago, and have been locked up ever since. They're currently detained by ICE in Dilley, Texas.
Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [CITY/STATE] to urge ICE to free all families together from detention.
A federal judge has ordered the release of all children from family detention centers because they are “on fire”: COVID-19 runs rampant in two of the three family facilities, where children as young as one are held in indefinite detention.
ICE has a choice: family unit or family separation. ICE must release all families -- children and parents -- together. ICE has the legal authority to do so and has historically done this.
Parents and children must not be separated. Separating families violates multiple human rights and does not prioritize the best interests of the child.
Parents must not be left behind indefinitely in family detention, nor should families remain in indefinite detention together.
ICE must do the right thing and immediately release all families together. They must not choose family separation over family unity. Thank you for your time.
