Fight for Your Right to Welcome Refugees
The Trump Administration has announced it will again cut the number of refugees the US will admit to historic lows — only 30,000 refugees. This is the lowest goal in the history of the program by far and represents an all-out attack against our country’s ability to resettle refugees both now and in the future.
When refugees are under attack, Amnesty members stand up and fight back. Amnesty International USA members have hosted welcoming events with refugees and resettlement agencies across the country. Many have worked with their communities to pass “welcoming resolutions” to show that when the White House fails to stand by our values, our towns, cities and universities will step up to the plate. Others have sponsored refugees directly and welcomed them into our communities.
Urge your member of Congress to tell President Trump this isn’t who we are. We can set a goal in line with global need, and the US has capacity to do more. At times of far less global need, the US has done far more. We can do it again.
We are at a defining moment in our country — and our world — and the US must reaffirm its commitment to doing its part to help those seeking safety and protection.
