Tell Your senators DREAMers are not a Bargaining Chip

This March, thousands of Dreamers will begin losing their work permits and protection from deportation if Congress does not pass legislation to grant them permanent residency.

Dreamers are Americans in all but name – they were raised here, went to school here, work and pay taxes here. They broke no immigration laws as they were brought here as children, yet they live in constant fear of deportation.

Unfortunately President Trump is trying to trade building a border wall and protections for asylum-seekers and children for the Dream Act.

Many individuals and children who arrive at our borders are seeking protection from harm. A border wall would have a devastating impact on the human rights of Native Americans --cutting right through tribal lands and directly impacting the lives and livelihood of Native American Nations.

This act of pitting one marginalized group against another is senseless and absurd, demand your Senator pass a clean Dream Act now!

Dear Senator,

I would like to reiterate Amnesty International USA’s call to Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act and reiterate that the only acceptable immigration reform is one that protects human rights.

As Congress debates immigration reform and the fate of hundreds of thousands of DREAMers who have built their lives, businesses, and families in the United States, I urge you to support the passage of a Clean Dream Act that does not pit asylum seekers against Dreamers, and preserve family unit.
 
The White House immigration framework is aimed at criminalizing, detaining and punishing people who flee to the U.S. in search of refuge, and humanitarian protection. An immigration reform that is respectful of human rights need to protect DREAMers, immigrant families, and asylum seekers, including Central American children, fleeing persecution, torture, gender violence .

Senator, you must prevent families to be split and being deported back into situations in which they at grave risk of being raped, beaten, and even killed.

Any immigration deal must:
Provide  residency and a pathway to citizenship for all DREAMERS
No border wall, and
No purported “border security" measures that would endanger people seeking protection in the United States and would violate the human rights of residents living in U.S. border communities.
 
Dreamers are American in all but name -- they were raised here, went to school here, work and pay taxes here, built families and roots here . This country is their home, and a clean Dream act will recognize that.
