The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and programs offered through the State Department deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to more than 100 countries — and at only a small fraction of under 1% of the U.S. government’s budget.

These programs provide funding for school supplies, diapers, clean water, and toilets to some of the most vulnerable people in the world. They also improve global health, advance food security, and protect human rights.

But the unelected and unaccountable Elon Musk and DOGE are working to have the Trump administration dismantle it. And now Secretary Rubio has announced the U.S. is canceling 83% of USAID programs.

Shutting down USAID is not only harmful — it’s illegal without action by Congress.

That’s why we need your help — write to your members of Congress to step in and challenge this move. We need to overwhelm their inboxes with our letters of support to save U.S. foreign assistance!

I'm writing as a constituent of yours with deep concern over Elon Musk's efforts to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Secretary Rubio's decision to terminate thousands of foreign assistance awards serving millions of people. Dismantling programs funded by U.S. foreign assistance is illegal, immoral, and undermines both human rights and U.S. interests.

Governments around the world are significantly better equipped to meet their human rights obligations because of the technical and financial resources U.S. foreign assistance provides.

An abrupt collapse of USAID and State Department awards is putting the rights of millions of people around the world at greater risk as a result.

What dismantling live-saving work supported by U.S. foreign assistance doesn't do is make anyone safer or more prosperous. I implore you to use your power as a U.S. elected official and public servant to immediately step in to challenge this decision of the Trump administration that is thwarting Congress's authority.

As Congress has consistently stated in both authorizing and funding bills for decades, U.S. foreign assistance matters – and I represent a vast constituency of American voters that care about it.

Saving the U.S. foreign assistance system is a matter of life or death for some of the most vulnerable communities around the world. Thank you for taking the time to read my note.
