U.S. foreign assistance administered through USAID and other institutions delivers life-saving humanitarian aid — funding school supplies, diapers, clean water, and toilets to some of the most vulnerable people globally.

It also combats human rights violations and addresses devastating health crises around the world — at a fraction of less than 1% of the U.S. government's budget.

But the Trump administration has chaotically dismantled and gutted it. Shutting down USAID and U.S. foreign assistance is not only harmful — it's illegal without action by Congress.

That's why we need your help — right now, Secretary Rubio is trying to persuade Congress to make these cuts permanent. Write to your elected lawmakers to push back. We need to overwhelm their inboxes with our letters of support to save U.S. foreign assistance!

I'm writing as a constituent of yours with deep concern over the past five months of Elon Musk's efforts to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and now Secretary Rubio’s decision to terminate thousands of foreign assistance awards serving millions of people and demotion of human rights in the State Department. Dismantling programs Congress has funded is illegal, immoral, and undermines both human rights and U.S. interests. Congress should not rubber stamp post facto a chaotic process that puts lives at risk around the world.

Governments around the world are significantly better equipped to meet their human rights obligations because of the technical and financial resources U.S. foreign assistance provides.

An abrupt collapse of U.S. foreign assistance, including programs run through USAID, is putting the rights of millions of people around the world at greater risk as a result.

What dismantling live-saving work supported by U.S. foreign assistance doesn't do is make anyone safer or more prosperous. I implore you to use your power as a U.S. elected official and public servant to immediately step in to challenge this decision of the Trump administration that is thwarting Congress's authority. Continue to robustly fund U.S. foreign assistance that supports human rights.

As Congress has consistently stated in both authorizing and funding bills for decades, U.S. foreign assistance matters and human rights must be a part of U.S. foreign policy – and I represent a vast constituency of American voters that care about both.

Saving the U.S. foreign assistance system is a matter of life or death for some of the most vulnerable communities around the world. Thank you for taking the time to read my note.
