Tell Seoul: protect the rights of people with disabilities

Forty years ago, Kyung Seok Park suffered from a tragic accident that caused him to become paraplegic. Since then Kyung has deeply engaged in changing the lives of the disability movement in South Korea. As a member of the Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SADD), a disability rights movement, he has recently focused his attention on activism on public transportation.

Knowing there have been numerous injuries and unsafe conditions at train and subway stations, in 2021, Kyung Seok and other SADD activists began organizing peaceful protests. Their plan? During busy commuting hours, wheelchair users simultaneously boarded and disembarked subway trains. Authorities and Seoul Metro staff reacted with violence, forcibly dragging out protesters from stations.

Call on the mayor of Seoul to protect Kyung Seok Park’s rights to peacefully protest and demand a world where no one is left behind.
