TAKE ACTION TO END GUN VIOLENCE
OHIO: Sign and Support an OGVP in Cincinnati
Gun violence is a critical issue affecting our community, and it is imperative that we take decisive and sustained action to address it. We believe that establishing an Office of Gun Violence Prevention will significantly contribute to the safety and well-being of all Cincinnati residents.
Goals and Vision:
-
Coordinating Body: The OGVP will serve as the main coordinating body for the city's various anti-gun violence initiatives. It will amplify community-based intervention and prevention services, introduce technological solutions to prevent gun violence, create safe, empowered, and interconnected communities in Cincinnati, and expand the current efforts being implemented by the city.
-
Accountability: The OGVP ensures that coordination and collaboration occur across Cincinnati Government. It holds agencies and offices accountable for their gun violence prevention work by coordinating, funding, and evaluating public health gun violence reduction interventions and their outcomes.
-
Sustained Priority: This office will keep gun violence prevention a priority for the city, regardless of changes in state-level administration. This follows the precedent set by Columbus in 2023 and demonstrates our commitment to long-term solutions.
-
Community and Data-Driven Safety: The OGVP brings new possibilities for safety by implementing targeted, contextualized, data-informed, and community-driven programs where they are needed most. This ensures the city's initiatives are effective and impactful.
We urge the Cincinnati City Council to add this issue to the ballot and allow the residents of Cincinnati to vote on this important matter. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a brighter future for our city.
