PASS RESOLUTION TO SAVE LIVES IN GAZA

URGENT: Senator Bernie Sanders just introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval in the Senate that would block the sale of over $20 billion in weapons to the Israeli military based on human rights and humanitarian concerns. The bills will be coming to the Senate floor soon, and we have a LIMITED time to get our senators to help pass them!

Amnesty has found evidence that U.S.-made weapons have been used by Israeli forces in unlawful and deadly attacks on Palestinian civilians.

The policies and actions of the U.S. government have failed to address the mounting and manufactured humanitarian catastrophe, and we can’t allow our leaders to be complicit in this carnage. If passed, these measures could immediately save civilian lives.

As a constituent of yours, I am writing to urge you to support the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval recently introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders and call for the immediate suspension of all weapons sales and transfers to the Israeli government used to commit violations of international law.

I urge you to support this resolution because of the worsening and manufactured  humanitarian catastrophe in the occupied Gaza Strip, the larger Occupied Palestinian Territory, and now, Lebanon and Syria.

For a year, brutal bombardments have continued across Gaza, with civilian deaths mounting daily. Airstrikes by Israeli forces are wiping out entire Palestinian families. Research by Amnesty International has found that – based on photographic and satellite evidence, as well as on-the-ground investigation and analysis of bomb fragments – United States-made weapons are being used in attacks that are maiming and killing Palestinian civilians in Gaza in instances with no discernible military target and in violation of international law.

These violations are being committed with weapons produced and provided by the U.S. and heavily subsidized by U.S. taxpayers.

Because of its close relationship with the Israeli government — which includes sending billions of dollars in military funding and weapons annually — the United States plays a key role and has a responsibility to ensure civilians are protected and to address the worsening humanitarian catastrophe.

Senator, these Joint Resolutions of Disapproval offer a pathway to address the destructive role U.S. weapons are playing in devastating harm to civilians in Gaza and the wider region. They also open a much needed conversation about the consequences of continuing unconditional arms transfers to a government that has repeatedly violated international humanitarian and human rights law for decades, including how the lack of conditions has stymied ceasefire discussions and the safe release of remaining hostages.

It should not be controversial to ask security partners, including the Israeli government, to ensure that U.S. weapons be used in a manner consistent with international law.

Will you add your name in support of the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, including S.J.Res 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, and 116, to block $20 billion in weapons to the Israeli government? And will you publicly call for the immediate suspension of all weapons sales and transfers to the Israeli government that are being used in violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, and in a manner that is inconsistent with U.S. law and policy?
