I write to you as a member of Amnesty International USA with deep concern over Israel's ongoing genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip. The U.S. government is uniquely positioned to have tremendous impact to end the genocide and to ensure the protection of civilians.

I am filled with relief that a ceasefire deal has finally been reached.

However, a temporary pause or reduction in the scale of attacks and allowing a trickle of humanitarian aid into Gaza is not enough. There must be a full cessation of hostilities and a total lifting of Israel's illegal blockade. Israel must allow the unhindered flow of basic supplies, including food, medicine, fuel and reconstruction material, into all parts of the occupied Gaza Strip, as well as the restoration of essential services, to ensure the survival of a population reeling from starvation, repeated waves of mass forced displacement and a campaign of annihilation. This should be coupled with the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza, and urgent action to rebuild and repair critical infrastructure across the Gaza Strip.

As an elected official, I implore you to take urgent action to bring this genocide to an end and to immediately suspend all sales and transfers of weapons to Israel.

There is a long road ahead to ensure the protection of the human rights of all civilians in the region. I urge you to focus on the following priorities:

1. Ensure the current ceasefire results in a full cessation of hostilities and is a pathway to ending Israel’s genocide, unlawful occupation, and apartheid;
2. Press Israel to allow lifesaving supplies to urgently reach all parts of Gaza to ensure the survival of Palestinians, and to grant access to independent human rights monitors into Gaza to uncover evidence and reveal the extent of violations;
3. Immediately suspend   transfer all weapons, munitions, and other military and security equipment to Israel, including by supporting H.R.3565, the Block the Bombs Act.
4. Call for the release of Palestinians who remain in arbitrary detention. Thousands of Palestinians, including children, have been held without charge or trial under Israel's system of administrative detention – an unlawful practice Amnesty International has long documented as a tool of repression. Their immediate release is essential to ending the cycle of collective punishment and ensuring respect for due process and human rights.

The need for a permanent ceasefire with a full cessation of hostilities, an arms embargo,and for truth, justice and reparation is more pressing than ever.
