Republic of Congo: Ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons Against Enforced Disappearance

Enforced disappearances continue to affect families and destroy people's lives in the Republic of Congo. In 2007, the Republic of Congo Government signed the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons Against Enforced Disappearance but did not ratify it. In 2018, on the occasion of its United Nations' Universal Periodic Review, the Congolese Government agreed to ratify this international convention. The government has delayed this ratification since 2019. But cases of disappearances continue. Between 2021 and 2022, at least a dozen cases of enforced disappearances have been documented.

On the occasion of the Day of the Disappeared, Amnesty International, the Center for Development Action (CAD) in the Republic of Congo, and others urge the government to officially ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons Against Enforced Disappearance by August 30, the Day of the Disappeared. If not possible, let’s urge the government to accelerate the ratification process and announce the ratification publicly.

Together, let's push Congolese authorities to ratify the International Convention for the Protection of all Persons against Enforced Disappearance. by signing this open letter to be sent to the Minister of Justice Aimé Ange Wilfrid Bininga.
