Act Now: Trans Rights are Human Rights

Trans rights are human rights. Period.

Yet attacks against transgender people have only intensified in the last two years: The Trump administration has blocked gender-affirming care, research and education related to trans people, directed law enforcement to investigate trans advocacy groups, and created restrictions on passports for trans people. It has promoted anti-transgender rhetoric and misinformation to dehumanize and scapegoat trans people, who already face a heightened risk of violence, homelessness, and poverty.

Lawmakers have also increased attacks on trans people: at least 122 anti-trans bills have been introduced in Congress, and at least 773 anti-trans bills have been introduced in state legislatures this year.

Now more than ever, we need legislation that PROTECTS — not attacks — the rights of transgender people.

Call on your elected leaders to pass the The Transgender Bill of Rights (H.Res.1058), which would provide protections for transgender and nonbinary people by:

Ensuring trans and nonbinary people have equal access to services and public accommodations
Recognizing the right to bodily autonomy and ethical healthcare
Promoting the safety of trans and nonbinary people
Enforcing the civil rights of trans people

I am writing to urge you to support the Transgender Bill of Rights resolution. State and local governments have increased legislative attacks against transgender people, often targeting the lives and welfare of trans children.  In addition to cruel legislation, politicians continue to increase vicious rhetoric, putting real people at risk as threats and rates of violence against transgender people continue to increase.

Trans youth deserve our protection, and all trans people should be able to live lives of safety and dignity.

I urge you to support the Transgender Bill of Rights resolution, which sets out a comprehensive framework for protecting the rights of transgender and nonbinary people.

The resolution urges action to:

- Ensure transgender and nonbinary people have equal access to services and public accommodations
- Recognize the right to bodily autonomy and ethical healthcare
- Promote the safety of trans and nonbinary people
- Enforce the civil rights of transgender people.
