Access to abortion is a human right. Under international human rights law, everyone has a right to life, a right to health, and a right to be free from violence, discrimination, and torture or other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy against their will — for whatever reason — is a violation of those rights. Abortion must be legal, safe and accessible for all.

I am writing to you as your constituent from {user_data~City}, {user_data~Postcode} to urge you to do everything in your power to defend the right to abortion in {user_data~State}.

Abortion is important healthcare for people across our state. Banning abortion or making it harder to access can put the lives and health of pregnant people at risk, and it is a violation of their human rights. It should be up to the individual person -- not the government -- whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.

I ask you as governor to promote the right to abortion, including through working with our legislature to promote this and other important health services, including access to birth control and comprehensive, fact-based sex education.

I ask you to veto any legislation that comes to your desk that bans or prohibits abortion in our state or that restricts the ability of people to receive safe and legal abortion health services in any way, including laws that put unnecessary restrictions on abortion providers, impose extreme gestational limits or prohibit access to medication abortion.

We all want the ability to live a safe and healthy life and to be free to decide what happens to our bodies. I trust women, girls, and those who can get pregnant to decide for themselves whether to terminate a pregnancy. Please work to protect the health and wellbeing of women, girls, and people who can get pregnant and defend our freedom to decide for ourselves what happens to our lives and bodies.
