URGENT: ASYLUM-SEEKERS IN DANGER

The Biden administration announced it will finally end the deadly Title 42 policy which sends asylum-seekers at the border to unsafe places in Mexico or back to the countries they fled from.

But a group of lawmakers are trying to use the legislative process to sneak legislation that keeps Title 42 in place, long-term or permanently. And other Members of Congress don’t care enough to stop them.

Title 42 harms and punishes asylum-seekers in an attempt to deter them from exercising their human right to seek asylum. But that just forces people to turn to riskier, life-threatening routes. Countless people are dying on land and at sea in search of safety, and many more will face these dangers as long as Title 42 stays.

Congress needs to hear this loud and clear in order to act and stop this: Title 42 has got to go.

I’m calling to let Senator [name] know I support the administration’s decision to end the unlawful and inhumane Title 42 policy and am deeply disturbed to see members of Congress attempting to undermine CDC guidance and keep Title 42 in place.

I urge you to oppose any amendments or legislation meant to keep Title 42 in place and block access to asylum. If Senator [name] cares about human rights and racial justice, they would not align themselves with a policy like Title 42.

DHS has a comprehensive, whole-of-government plan and strategy, including capacity and resources, to ensure an orderly process at the border when lifting Title 42. Communities and advocates across the country are ready for an end to Title 42 and to welcome people fleeing violence and conflict.
