On Inauguration Day, as Donald Trump takes the oath of office to become the 45th President of the United States, we must stand up as human rights defenders to ensure that his hateful campaign proposals do not become his presidential proposals.
Join us in telling President Trump to abandon the hateful rhetoric that defined his campaign and uphold international human rights for all.
Tell President Trump that as he takes on the role of President of the United States he must uphold protections for human rights defenders, and protect the rights of people fleeing conflict and crisis by not turning his back on refugees. Tell him to support and protect women's human rights in the US and around the world by working to end violence against women and expanding access to sexual and reproductive rights. Tell him to halt the sale of weapons to governments that commit human rights abuses and close Guantánamo. Finally tell him to unequivocally renounce torture.
Together we are standing against a Muslim registry and shutting down refugee aid programs. Instead, we are standing up for human rights defenders, and the human rights of all—including women, people of color, people with disabilities, LGBT people and activists.
To President Trump we say: every day in office, every choice you make will define your legacy. You can choose to leave the world a better place or one in which hatred, fear and discrimination grow stronger. We urge you to renounce hate and choose human rights.
