More than 50,000 unaccompanied migrant children have crossed the U.S. border.
They are fleeing dangerous conditions in Central America - political persecution, war, poverty, domestic and sexual abuse and violence by gangs and other criminal actors.
Their perilous journey entails ill-treatment, abduction and sexual assault.
Upon reaching the border many are detained by U.S. officials in conditions that violate their rights.
In response, the administration is seeking an additional $3.7 Billion of which $1.5 Billion is strictly for border security and expedited repatriation.
