Call on Israel to Respect Peaceful Protest in the Occupied West Bank

The village of Nabi Saleh exemplifies Palestinians’ non-violent struggle against land expropriation for illegal Israeli settlements. The village lands have been taken over by the neighboring Israeli settlement of Halamish. Villagers are prevented from accessing the spring and the land around it. In response, the 500 or so residents of Nabi Saleh have held weekly non-violent protests since 2009. They have been met with excessive and unnecessary force. Israeli forces have killed two protestors, injured hundreds of others and arrested children younger than 15 years old. All Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal under international law.
