Free Eskinder Nega: Stand for Freedom of Expression

action27586.jpgEthiopian journalist Eskinder Nega is behind bars for his work criticizing the government and speaking out about Ethiopians' need to struggle peacefully for freedom. In response, the authorities charged Eskinder with "high treason" and terrorism related offenses. In July 2012, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Ethiopian journalists are working in an environment of intensifying repression. In recent years, legislation has passed criminalizing freedom of expression as a terrorist act, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Call on the authorities to free Eskinder and stop silencing journalists! Read More
