The jail cell is gone, but Miriam lives in fear. In February 2011, Miriam López was abducted by soldiers who tortured and raped the mother of four in an attempt to force her to confess to drug trafficking – a crime she maintains she did not commit. Miriam remained in prison until September, when her case was thrown out for lack of evidence.
Today, no charges have been filed. The officers responsible continue to enjoy impunity despite the fact that Miriam López has identified some of the perpetrators and accomplices.
Now Miriam lives in constant fear of abduction.
