Shaker Aamer has been held in Guantanamo without charge or trial for over 12 years. In President Obama's last speech on national security, he once again reaffirmed the need to close the detention facility. Now it's time to turn those words into action.
Shaker Aamer has already been cleared for transfer--twice--and the UK government has asked for him to be released and returned to the UK. If President Obama means what he says, then Shaker Aamer's case could, and should, be resolved today.
Every detainee must either be fairly tried in federal court or released. There is no excuse to deny human rights any longer. Charge and fairly try, or release, Shaker Aamer and all other Guantanamo detainees. Read more
